Wildfire Management
OUR PROJECT
What’s in wildfire smoke?
New data shows that people in Western states can expect more days with unhealthy air by mid-century, mainly due to increased wildfire smoke due to climate change. The tiny particles released from smoke, known as PM2.5, can lodge deep into the lungs, making it difficult to breathe and increasing the risk of serious health effects like asthma attacks and heart failure.
Protecting Your Home
Air purifiers and air conditioners are one tool people can use in homes impacted by smoke. Many turn to DIY air cleaners. Protecting your living space before fire arrives is all about creating a defensible space. The website, firewise.org has more resources.
